did i did something wrong?

saw a thread and added a guy from here. when he started chatting with me, he knew that i was a designer. he asked me if i could help him to design a logo for his friend. i said ok.
however, when i asked some questions on the job, such as deadline, color preference, etc, when i asked about the budget thing, it seemed that he got shocked, and said he could not make decision and would ask for another friend to help, then he went to sleep and got offline...
can anyone tell me whether i did something wrong?
